This month’s meeting featured an Education-focused session with two distinguished East Texas leaders: Dr. Julie Philley, President of The University of Texas at Tyler, and Dr. Juan E. Mejia, President of Tyler Junior College. Both leaders shared their personal career journeys, insights into higher education, and the evolving role education plays in shaping communities and the workforce.

Students gained valuable perspective on college pathways, leadership development, and the importance of lifelong learning. Dr. Philley and Dr. Mejia also participated in a question-and-answer session, encouraging students to ask thoughtful questions about college readiness, career exploration, and the skills needed to succeed beyond high school.

Hosting the meeting at the Tyler ISD Career & Technology Center highlighted the district’s commitment to preparing students for future leadership roles by connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences. The Future Leaders of Tyler program continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students to learn from community leaders and explore future careers across a variety of fields.

Launched by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Tyler ISD and the Business Education Council, the program remains committed to fostering civic responsibility and leadership in East Texas.
