Starting his 23rd year, Mr. Howard has been a pillar of excellence at Tyler Legacy High Schoolβserving not only as an exemplar teacher but also as a mentor, leader, and advocate for student success.
In the classroom, Mr. Howardβs students consistently outperform district, state, and global averages on AP Biology examsβachieving an 82.5% pass rate in 2024 compared to the state average of 53.8%. His innovative approach to instruction blends Socratic seminars, small-group learning, and data-driven strategies that foster both academic rigor and student empowerment. He creates a learning environment that values curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Beyond academics, Mr. Howard plays a vital role in shaping student leadership and character. He serves as the Student Council and National Honor Society sponsor, guiding students in service, leadership, and school-wide initiatives that strengthen campus culture. His mentorship in these roles reflects his deep commitment to developing well-rounded, responsible citizens.
Mr. Howardβs leadership extends across campus and beyond. As Science Department Chair, a Campus Instructional Leadership Team member, and a mentor for new teachers, he consistently supports instructional growth. He was recently named as a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and was the 2025 Brookshire's Fresh Teacher of the Season!
