Tyler ISD is proud to announce three high school students have received the Texas First Congressional Service Award. Ruby Ayala-Ponce, a senior at Tyler High School, along with Caroline Hines, a sophomore, and Matthew Scheusner, a junior both from Tyler Legacy High School were presented the award this week by representatives of Congressman Nathaniel Moranβs office this week.
This award recognizes exceptional high school students across the First Congressional District of Texas. The awardees were selected from more than 100 high schools across the 17 counties in the First Congressional District. Honorees are selected for their extraordinary acts of service, sacrifice, or commitment to volunteerism and community engagement. The award celebrates βunsung heroesβ who go above and beyond in serving others, demonstrating selflessness and embodying the true spirit of Texas.
Combined the students volunteered for more than 400 hours giving back to their schools, churches, and community.
βI am honored to congratulate the inaugural class of recipients of the Texas First Congressional Service Award and to thank them for their humility, dedication, and selflessness,β said Congressman Moran. βAs the first-ever awardees of this recognition, these students have displayed outstanding character, exemplifying the true spirit of Texas by shining a light of service and compassion to the world around us. I applaud these young people for going above and beyond to serve their schools, communities, state, and our great nation. May God bless these students and guide their future endeavors.β
The Texas First Congressional Service Award is not a scholarship, but rather a service award to recognize deserving students in the First Congressional District of Texas.
