Congratulations to Toryian Howland, 2nd grade student at Jones Elementary School, for being named the District Elementary Student of the Month.
Toryian is a joyful, curious learner who brings energy and kindness to the classroom every day. He has an amazing knack for learning and takes every opportunity to grow, asking thoughtful questions, trying new activities, and helping classmates understand new ideas. His excitement for learning is contagious: when Toryian is engaged, others are inspired to do their best.
He loves reading nonβfiction books and eagerly explores realβworld topics that deepen his understanding. Toryian is also a natural leader. He consistently models respectful listening, follows directions, and steps in to help others when they need support. At recess he plays tag and hangs out with friends in a way that is fair, encouraging, and funβshowing teamwork and kindness in both play and learning.
A standout quality is how well Toryian practices the 7 Habits, especially Habit 3 β Put First Things First. He manages his time effectively by completing important tasks before free activities, comes to class prepared with his materials, and makes thoughtful choices that benefit both himself and his classmates. His selfβcontrol, responsibility, and focus on what matters most set a positive example for everyone.
Toryian has big dreamsβhe wants to own his own pizza chain and make his own pizza one dayβand his curiosity, leadership, and work ethic make me confident he will achieve that goal. He makes our classroom a better place every day through his positive attitude, compassion, and dedication to learning.
The Tyler ISD District Students of the Month each receive a certificate and medal, sponsored by CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

Each month, Tyler ISD recognizes the exemplary efforts of two students, one from our elementary schools and one from our secondary schools, to be honored. Teachers and school principals submit nominations based on students' excellence in many areas, including academics, leadership, campus, and community involvement. These outstanding qualities lead to successful student outcomes both in and outside of the classroom.
