elementary age boys standing next to bikes in a school cafeteria

The Secret Santas arrived early at Dixie Elementary School to unload dozens of bikes and line them up under the tree for all to see before  students filed into the cafeteria for a last-minute “assembly.”  The “assembly” was an excuse to get them to the joyful surprise waiting for them.

After taking their seats, they all noticed the shiny new two-wheeled items in their cafeteria as Principal Kim Simmons revealed the enormous, incredible news. Their first-grade teacher, Mrs. Jackson, her husband, and her uncle bought a new bike for each of her 20 students, plus a dozen more to be given away to other Dixie Dragons!

The children immediately ran to pick out one to take home. Their laughter and cheers carried throughout the cafeteria. They gathered in groups, while some stood alone beside the gifts, still processing what was happening.

Mrs. Simmons shared the importance of knowing your students and their needs. Dixie Elementary School focuses on caring for those in need throughout the year.

This time of year, the Jacksons say, is particularly crucial to provide the children with healing, hope, and happiness.

It is not the first year Mrs. Jackson has provided items for the children, and she is committed to continuing the class-wide gift-giving in the years ahead.
