Today, Chief Baker of Tyler ISD and the Career & Technology Center worked with the Tyler ISD CTC Firefighter 1 & 2 students to learn about the three elements that control fire, the chemistry behind fire science, and the necessary actions to take to control fire. Using a pre-made doll house built by our Tyler ISD CTC Construction students, which featured sliding doors and removeable panels, Chief Baker and his students observed how solids turned to gas, how steam is generated to replace smoke, how oxygen increases a fire's ability to grow, and how the removal of any of the three elements of a fire puts out a fire. Students learned that 1 gallon of water turns into 1700 times the amount of steam resulting in an easier method to put out a fire. Each student worked to remove panels, slide doors, add fuel, spray water, and help each other in the science of fire control.
