Students in the Clarkston Coding Club recently showcased their problem-solving skills during an exciting βEggstravagant Coding Challenge,β completing two hands-on projects that combined coding, collaboration, and math. In Project #1, Egg Launch, students worked in pairs to measure precise angles and code their robots to travel along a path toward a basket. Once in position, teams programmed their robots to launch plastic eggs into the basket, earning points based on accuracy and success.

In Project #2, Egg Hunt Maze, students again partnered up to tackle a more complex taskβcoding their robots to navigate through a maze while collecting as many eggs as possible. Using their understanding of angles and movement, teams carefully planned and adjusted their code to improve efficiency and maximize their egg count. Both challenges required strong teamwork, persistence, and critical thinking as students tested and refined their programs.

Throughout both projects, students applied middle school-level math skills by collecting their own data, calculating percentages, and creating color-coded pie charts to represent their results. Experiences like these highlight the importance of introducing coding and higher-level math concepts in elementary school. By engaging students in real-world applications, Clarkston Coding Club is helping build a strong foundation in STEM, preparing students with the skills and confidence needed for future academic success.
