Bonner students gather around an emergency medical services worker beside an ambulance during their community helpers week.

Bonner’s Pre-K and kindergarten students had some special visitors last week as they learned about community helpers. Throughout the week, students met people who do important jobs right here in Tyler and learned how their work helps others.

Officer Johnson, our school police officer with the Tyler Independent School District Police Department, joined us, along with visitors from CHRISTUS Health, the Tyler Fire Department, and the City of Tyler’s solid waste team. Having these helpers visit our school gave students a chance to connect what they were learning in class with people in their own community.

The week included learning about healthcare workers, firefighters, police officers, and the crews who collect our garbage. Each visit helped introduce a different job and showed students how many people work together to take care of a community.

Mrs. Bernardino, our assistant principal, also stopped by to read about teachers. It was a chance to recognize another community helper our students know well: the teachers who help them learn every day.

Thank you to everyone who took time to visit our students and share a little about their work. We’re grateful our youngest learners had the opportunity to meet some of the people who take care of Tyler!
