Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford joined a panel of East Texas Education leaders at the 2025 Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce State of Education luncheon today at the Green Acres Crosswalk Conference Center.

β€œWe appreciate the Tyler Chamber providing a platform for leaders from K–12 and higher education to come together and present the challenges and opportunities facing East Texas,” said Dr. Marty Crawford, Tyler ISD Superintendent. β€œThese conversations help us align our efforts to better prepare students for what’s nextβ€”whether that’s college, career, or military service.”

Along with Dr. Crawford, the panel included Tyler Junior College President Dr. Juan Mejia and The University of Texas at Tyler President Dr. Julie Philley. Dr. Crawford spoke about the most pressing issue that the 89th legislature emphasized, which faces East Texas’ most extensive school system: teacher preparation. He also shared how the District is advancing through its Next is Now initiative, launched this school year to expand innovative programs and opportunities for students.

β€œNext is Now is about reimagining what’s possible for our students,” said Dr. Crawford. β€œWe’re not waiting for the future to arriveβ€”we’re creating it here in Tyler ISD. We’re focused on innovationβ€”whether that’s new academic pathways, hands-on learning experiences, or programs that connect students directly with local industries. It’s about making sure our schools continue to evolve to today’s learners so that Tyler’s future citizenry and workforce is prepared to lead East Texas into the 22nd Century.”
