Starting February 19th until the end of the school year the school nurse will be conducting spinal screenings as mandated by Texas Department of State Health Services.
State law requires the testing of 12-year-old girls and 14-year-old boys. Trained screeners will check your child for signs of spinal problems like Scoliosis.
Catching a spinal problem early can make treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems.
The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child's back while he or she stands and bends forward.
The school nurse will send you a letter if your child does not pass the screening.
If you do not wish for your child to be screened and prefer their physician to screen, you must notify the school nurse at 903-262-1447 by February 12th.
