Boulter Middle School Holds International Virtual Colloquy for Teachers and Students

On December 7 and December 9, 2022, Boulter Middle School, in partnership with Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Junior High School Department, held a two-leg Virtual Colloquy with teachers and students with the theme, Forging Linkages that Mold Professional Growth and Reflective Communication

PLCThe program was organized mainly to have both schools engage in professional conversations and bridge multicultural education structures. In the previous year, Mrs. Edgermi Gingoyon of Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu and Ms. Maggi Mae Vestal of Boulter Middle School had tied-up for the student colloquy. This year, bridging waters with fellow professionals in the academe was made possible.

The first day of the colloquy was a benchmarking where Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu Secondary Department witnessed Boulter Middle School’s best practices during PLC (Professional Learning Community) periods.  The program was opened by Mrs Melanie Bush, Academic Dean, and key inputs were shared by Master Teachers: Mrs Kristen Miller and Mrs Angela Holman. They were also able to watch a 20-minute live in-PLC session with Boulter Middle School 8th Grade RLA Teachers. The teachers and administrators from SHS-AdC were very grateful for the opportunity to learn from our campus.

The second day kicked off as BMS 6th Grade students and Ateneo de Cebu 7th Grade students had learning conversations that imbibed a sense of interculturality and interconnectedness. This colloquy on its second year allowed students their fair share of chances to talk about Texas, Pop Culture, American Customs and Traditions, Food, and Language.

Deija Bryant, a sixth grader, mentioned how they have a lot of similarities and loved learning the slang words.

The student colloquy program was closed by the principal himself, Mr Justin Simmons, who noted the value of learning not just from textbooks but also from rich experiences like this. The students then enjoyed a salu-salo where they enjoyed trying Filipino snacks for the first time.
