Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School sixth grader Malynn Navarro recently took on an exciting new challenge by competing in the Rose City Triathlon for the very first time.
A triathlon challenges athletes to complete three different events—swimming, cycling, and running—all in one race. Although this was Malynn’s first attempt at a triathlon, she showed determination and perseverance by completing the entire race.
Making the experience even more memorable, Malynn competed alongside her father. Together, the father-daughter duo took on each portion of the course and crossed the finish line after completing all three events.
For Malynn, one part of the competition stood out as her favorite.
“The swimming was the easiest part for me,” she said.
Despite the physical demands of completing three different athletic events, Malynn said the experience was one she enjoyed and would be willing to take on again in the future.
Participating in her first triathlon gave Malynn an opportunity to challenge herself, try something new, and demonstrate the importance of perseverance. Finishing the race is an accomplishment that required preparation, endurance, and a willingness to keep going from the starting line all the way to the finish.
The Birdwell community is proud to celebrate students who pursue their interests and challenge themselves both inside and outside of school.
Congratulations to Malynn on completing her first Rose City Triathlon! Her accomplishment is a great reminder that sometimes the best way to discover what you are capable of is to accept a new challenge and give it your all.
