Our Jack Library had the most fun hosting Anna Raff, an award-winning illustrator of several childrens books from New York. A group of second graders were able to hear Anna read one of the books she recently illustrated, Party Animals by Tara Lazar. During the read aloud, Anna explained a few behind-the-scenes details of her experience when illustrating this book.

After the read aloud, Anna then explained her process as an artist illustrating children's books. She described her typical routines, how long the entire process might take, and what it is really like to be an illustrator. She also encouraged the students to never give up - that even when she feels stumped, she keeps working toward her goals and perseveres to complete the illustrations.

After explaining the illustration process, students were able to ask Anna questions about her personal experiences as an illustrator, what motivates her to keep going when things get difficult, and about some of her favorite characters she has drawn throughout the years.
Anna even demonstrated her illustration techniques with a live drawing for the students!

The students and staff had a wonderful time getting to know Anna and learning from her. We are so thankful for her generousity and love of the library!
