pre-k age boy grinds corn while older man wearing overalls watches

Hay! Hay! It’s Pre-K Farm Day at Andy Woods Elementary School! This year marks the fifth year that all of the preschool students could see with their own eyes, touch with their own hands, and ride by themselves on the animals they spent weeks learning about in their classrooms.

“There is no better way for the lessons to sink in and stay with them than our Farm Day,” Teacher Jana Slaughter said. “It is the most exciting activity that my students look forward to from the start of lesson one. We use the course work to learn everything possible about each specific animal and what each one does for us.”

For children and their families, Farm Day is a community event for relatives to participate and volunteer to enjoy interacting with piglets, chickens, a cow, and horses. The horses delight as kids ride around feeling like real cowkids!

There were also interactive stations with crafts, a tractor, games, and a chance to grind corn and dig for worms. The rain held off, making it the perfect morning to enjoy our hometown school district with nature, family, and classmates and continue learning
