It was a day of surprises at Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs when Jessica Dene, a teacher, was recognized as a Grand Prize winner in the Lighten Up East Texas challenge hosted by Fit City Tyler!
Representatives from Fit City Tyler stopped by the campus to surprise Jessica with the exciting news. As part of the community-wide health initiative, participants who lost at least 5% of their body weight between January and April 2025 earned raffle entries into a Grand Prize drawing—and Jessica's name was one of the lucky ones pulled!
Special thanks go to Kathy White, Boshears' campus nurse, for entering interested employees into the challenge and to Rachel Fox, Director of Health Services, who encouraged all district nurses to serve as registration hubs for their campuses. Their support helped make this opportunity available to so many in our district.
Lighten Up East Texas is all about promoting healthier lifestyles across East Texas, and this year's event was no exception. For those already thinking about next year—if you're 18 or older and meet the 5% weight loss goal during the challenge period, you'll earn a ticket for your shot at winning, too!
