Bonner Elementary Student Delilah Reneau Named First Literacy Leader

The Tyler ISD Foundation is celebrating a love of reading and student achievement with the launch of its new Literacy Leaders program, an initiative designed to champion reader achievement, cultivate lifelong readers, and build a culture of literacy throughout Tyler ISD.

In partnership with Tyler ISD and Kona Ice, the Literacy Leaders program will recognize an outstanding student reader from a different Tyler ISD campus each month, celebrating students who demonstrate a passion for reading and inspire others through their commitment to learning.

Dr. Bobby Markel, whose vision helped bring Literacy Leaders to life, shared, β€œWhen we celebrate students who love to read, we do more than recognize an achievementβ€”we inspire other students to discover the joy of reading, explore new worlds through books, and see the possibilities that learning can unlock.”

The program officially launched today with the recognition of its inaugural Literacy Leader, Delilah Reneau, a student in Ms. Jannet Zavala’s class at Bonner Elementary School.

Delilah was selected for her inspiring leadership, enthusiasm for reading, and positive influence on those around her.

β€œDelilah is an exceptional student who leads by example,” said Bonner Elementary Principal Steven Ladd. β€œShe serves as a morning assembly leader and is always willing to support her classmates in any way possible. She absolutely loves to read and is a regular visitor to the library. She shows up with a smile and positive attitude every day.”

As the inaugural Literacy Leader, Delilah received a collection of books to continue growing her personal library, a Barnes & Noble gift card to select even more books, and a special Kona Ice celebration for her and her classmates. The celebration brought together the joy of reading and the excitement of sharing a memorable reward with friends.

Through Literacy Leaders, the Tyler ISD Foundation hopes to inspire students to see reading not simply as an assignment, but as an achievement, an opportunity for growth, and a lifelong passion.

β€œLiteracy Leaders is about celebrating students who embrace reading and encouraging others to discover the joy and possibilities that books can bring,” said Suzette Farr, Executive Director of the Tyler ISD Foundation. β€œWe are thrilled to launch this program with Delilah and grateful to Tyler ISD and Kona Ice for helping us make this recognition so meaningful for her and her classmates.”

The Literacy Leaders program reflects the Tyler ISD Foundation’s commitment to providing resources that inspire learning, enrich teaching, and enhance opportunities for Tyler ISD students through the support of exemplary programs.

With Delilah leading the way, the Foundation looks forward to celebrating more remarkable readers across Tyler ISD and continuing to champion literacy, achievement, and a love of learning.
