2020-07-27 Leader in Me Model Expanding Into More Tyler ISD Schools
More than 10,800 Tyler ISD elementary and middle school students will benefit from the Leader in Me program in the 2020-21 school year. After recent approval by the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees, the leadership and character development program will expand to include all Tyler ISD kindergarten through sixth grade students, as well as seventh and eighth grade students at Hogg and Three Lakes middle schools. The program that has already seen tremendous success at three district elementary schools.
“Tyler ISD has observed the benefits of the Leader in Me program at Andy Woods, Bell, and Dr. Bryan C. Jack elementary schools,” Executive Director of Student Support Dr. Jennifer Jones said. “We look forward to expanding this program to benefit Tyler ISD students districtwide.”
The Leader in Me program unites students, staff, and families around a common goal to prepare students with college, career, and life readiness skills that are necessary to thrive in today’s ever-changing, fast-paced environment. The program teaches students leadership skills, supports educators in creating a culture of student empowerment, and builds student skills for academic and life success.
“Leader in Me integrates the best practices from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and strategies to develop focus, taking action, being accountable, and goal achievement,” Jones said.
Incorporating Leader in Me principals into all aspects of learning and campus culture at Jack Elementary School led the school in becoming what the organization calls a Lighthouse School. Jack is among an elite group across the country to achieve Lighthouse status.
Along with leadership development, Leader in Me also provides college and career readiness components, social and emotional learning components, anti-bullying curriculum and instructional practices for developing positive relationships. For more information go to leaderinme.org.
