2020-06-23 Tyler ISD Recognized for Outstanding Financial Reporting
Tyler ISD’s commitment to excellence in financial transparency continues to receive prestigious recognition among school business leaders. The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Tyler ISD with a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE).
“Tyler ISD is a proud partner in building a quality community in the City of Tyler and Smith County by preparing our students for the workforce and higher education opportunities,” Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Tosha Bjork said. “Providing our community with the results of our operations annually through the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is an honor, and we are pleased that ASBO recognizes our efforts to inform and remain transparent to our stakeholders.”
ASBO International’s COE recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and transparency. The District earned the Certificate of Excellence for its CAFR for the fiscal year ending 2019, marking the seventeenth straight year for Tyler ISD to receive the award.
“The COE’s mission is to promote and recognize excellence in financial reporting, specifically through a district’s CAFR,” ASBO International Executive Director David Lewis said. “The CAFR informs stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communication tool for building trust and engaging with the school community.”
By participating in the COE program, school districts demonstrate their commitment to financial transparency. Applicants submit their CAFR for review by a team of financial professionals who provide feedback to improve future documents. If the CAFR meets the requirements of the program, the document may receive the Certificate of Excellence. A district’s participation in the COE program can facilitate bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.
