2020-05-12 Congratulations Tyler ISD 2020 Valedictorians and Salutatorians

Tyler ISD is proud to recognize our Class of 2020 valedictorians and salutatorians:

Kong

Jocelyn Kong – Early College High School Valedictorian

Jocelyn Kong, daughter of Tsang Tsung Kong and Kuen Man Kong, plans to attend The University of Texas at Tyler and plans to declare a major once in school. She was a member of the National Honor Society, UIL Mathematics team, Mu Alpha Theta, and was a Junior Achievement and PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) volunteer. She has been an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) student since middle school. Jocelyn is a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Tyler Junior College for maintaining a GPA over 3.5 for 60 credit hours. As an ECHS student, Jocelyn also earned an associate’s degree from TJC. Congratulations, Jocelyn!

Mondragon

Angel Mondragon – John Tyler High School Valedictorian

Angel Mondragon, son of Sebastian and Angela Marquez, plans to attend Texas A&M University to major in animal science. Angel was a member and president of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Green Club, member of the varsity tennis team and the senior leadership team. While in the Veterinary Medicine graduation pathway, Angel earned Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certifications in Cow Calf, Stocker, Feedyard and Dairy. He is an active volunteer with the BARC Humane Society, East Texas Food Bank, and Junior Achievement.

El-Kishky

Omar El-Kishky – Robert E. Lee High School Valedictorian

Omar El-Kishky, son of Dr. Hassan El-Kishky and Samia Khafagy, plans to attend Princeton University to major in computer science with a minor in applied and computational mathematics. Omar was a 2019 National Merit Scholar and an AP scholar in 9th, 10th and 11th grades. He was a member of the UIL academic team competing in science, biology, chemistry, and physics. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the junior varsity soccer team, and the Model United Nations Team. Omar was also a volunteer coach with the Muslim Youth Soccer Team. Congratulations, Omar!

Brown

Aiden Brown – Early College High School Salutatorian

Aiden Brown, son of Jonathon Brown and Laney Glover, plans to enlist in the Army and become a cardiothoracic surgeon. Aiden was a member of the National Honor Society as well as Phi Theta Kappa at Tyler Junior College for maintaining a GPA over 3.5 for 60 credit hours. As an ECHS student, Aiden also earned an associate’s degree from TJC. Thank you for your willingness to serve our country, Aiden!

English

Matthew English – Robert E. Lee High School Salutatorian

Matthew English, son of Drs. Grace and John English, plans to attend Louisiana Tech University to major in biomedical engineering. Matthew is an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 370 where he has also held many leadership roles. He was a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Texas Bank and Trust Student Board of Directors, Rho Kappa, UIL science team, Robert E. Lee Band, and the Robert E. Lee varsity baseball team. Matthew is also a member of the Junior Symphony League and the Green Acres Baptist Church Praise Alive High School Church Choir and One-Ten Student Ministry. Congratulations, Matthew!

Roy

Heather Roy – John Tyler High School Salutatorian

Heather Roy, daughter of Anissa and David Hampton and Carl Rogers, plans to attend Texas Southern University to major in Pharmacy. Heather was a member of the National Honor Society, co-secretary of Student Council, John Tyler High School Football Film Crew and a member of the track and field team where she competed in the 1600-meter relay and triple jump. Heather is also a member of her church’s praise dance, choir, drill team and youth usher board. Congratulations, Heather!
