TISD Foundation Awards Moore teachers $3,700 in Grant Funds

Two Moore classrooms were recently visited by the TISD Foundation Prize Patrol and awarded educational STEM grants for their classrooms. Mrs. Tammy Bowers was awarded $2,039.69 for her Math in Motion Grant. The grant will allow students to use the TI-Innovator Hub to translate commands from their Nspire graphing calculator to control a Rover.  The Rover is an educational robotic vehicle that students program with TI Nspire graphing calculators to explore topics in math, science, coding, and STEM.  The students will put math and science in motion, adding a physical dimension to verbal, symbolic and graphic representations.  On the same day, Mrs. Theresa Mascola’s science class was awarded $1,667.95 for an Augmented Reality Sandbox.

This grant will allow students to create topography models by shaping sand which is then enhanced in real time by an elevation color map, topographic contour lines and simulated water. The system teaches geographic and scientific concepts. Congratulations to these teachers for their innovative grants and STEM integration in the classroom.
