Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Kenneth Perkins
My journey to JT is along a winding road. Some might even call it crooked. I left Southern Illinois University at Carbondale after my junior year to take a sports writing job in Michigan, and for the next 20 or so years zipped along through life – marriage, kids, newspapers in Chicago, Dallas and Fort Worth as everything from a police reporter to a television and film critic. Shortly after spending a year as a John Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, I struck out on my own as a freelance writer and wrote for a number of publications, from People and Entertainment Weekly to the Washington Post TV Week. After teaching creative writing in Dallas public schools through an Independent Writer’s Group I got hooked on being in the classroom. I headed back for my Bachelor’s degree at Mid-America Christian University, majoring in Communications and Ethics, and here I am. I’m pumped to be here teaching English 1. As I have already told my freshmen, we are going to grow at JT together.
