Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jan Snook

My name is Jan Snook. I hold a bachelor's degree from Evangel University and a master's degree in music education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. This is my first year serving the Kindergarten through 4th grade students in Instrumental Arts.  This is my 17th year of teaching.  I have taught students all the way through high school and am thrilled to be teaching the younger students.  I believe that in order to become a great musician one must have a very strong set of fundemental skills:  The ability to sing in tune, the ability to keep a steady beat, and the ability to follow the best practices of good musicians.  The rest can be learned.  I am committed to high standards and expectations in my classroom. I set the bar high, because I believe in each students ability to succeed at this level. The purpose of instrumental arts in the lower grades is to teach music fundementals and the discipline needed to play an instrument in an ensemble. This year each grade level will have the following instrumental experience:

Kindergarten - 1st Grade:  Rhythm instruments, Handbells, Boomwhackers, Orff Xylophones

2nd Grade:  Rhythm Instruments, Handbells, Boomwhackers, Orff Xylophones, beginning Piano

3rd Grade:  Rhythm Instruments, Orff Xylophones, Ukulele and Piano

4th Grade:   Rhythm Instruments, Handbells, Boomwhackers, Orff Xylophones, beginning Piano

In Instrumental Music, we follow the Quaver 5 for our behavioral expectations:   (Quaver is the name of our Curricular Resource)  https://www.quavermusic.com/info/
