Mr. Donny de la Rosa
Donny de la Rosa will be starting his first year teaching at Robert E. Lee High School in the Fall of 2019. Previously, Mr. de la Rosa taught at the Point Isabel ISD, where he conducted the sub non-varsity band at Port Isabel High School as well as oversaw the development of the high brass with the program. Additionally, Mr. de la Rosa has taught privately at Wylie High school along with its feeder programs in Wylie, TX.
Mr. de la Rosa holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas State University, Masters of Music Performance from Eastern Illinois University, and is currently finishing (ABD) his Doctorate of Music in Performance and Literature with a cognate in Jazz from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. While at all institutions Mr.de la Rosa took advantage of performing in multiple ensembles including Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, New Music Ensemble, and Brass Quintet. Highlights of performances include maintaining principal/co-principal status at the University of Illinois resulting in being awarded the A.A. Harding Band award. While at Eastern Illinois University, Mr. de la Rosa won the University Solo Competition with Henri Tomasi’s Concerto for Trumpet and had the privilege to be featured in a concert accompanied by the EIU Orchestra. Outside of academics, Mr. de la Rosa also marched with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2007 and 2008.
Mr. de la Rosa is excited to start working with the Robert E. Lee Red Raider Band and become apart of the Tyler community.
