Principal's Message

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to Lion Country! My name is Claude Lane. This past spring, the Superintendent and School Board named me as the principal of this fine campus. Though I am new to the role of JT Principal, I am not new to Tyler ISD. This is my 29th year in our school district, having served as a principal at Moore MST Magnet for 23 years, Assistant Principal at Boulter Middle School for 3 years, and as a teacher and bus driver in TISD for 3 years. I am already well acquainted with many of our families here at John Tyler and look forward to meeting and serving all of you in this new capacity.

I believe in building the health and culture of a campus. Each year, our school district surveys teachers anonymously on the organizational health of the campus. We use an instrument called OHI to measure success. My number one strenth this past year was "Communication". This strength indicator was complimented with "Goal Focus". Both of these indicators are in the 90% national rank among schools and required for successful student achievement. Therefore, great communication must be a priority for all of us. We need to hear your voice, so please be transparent and solution oriented with the John Tyler staff and myself. We are here to serve.

I respectfully ask for your loyalty and commitment to TISD's vision. Schools should be united as one team moving the in the same direction. Since the word "team" is over used and it does not start with the letter "L", we will use the word "legion". (A legion is a unit of 3,000-6,000 soldiers united and is considered a powerful opponent.) Counting all of our students, parents, staff, and central office that number is a very accurate way to describe our Lion family.

We have high expectations for John Tyler. We are doing well in the Texas Education Agency Accountablility System. We currently have a 78 rating and we have earned a TEA Distinction in the area of Post-Secondary Readiness. This is a great foundation for us to build upon as a Legion of Lions. We fully expect to raise our campus rating this school year and add even more TEA Distinctions to represent the great work that our students are doing every day.

As a parent, we ask you to engage with your student and join us in loving John Tyler High School. May we be blessed beyond measure during this 2020-2021 School Year as we work together to serve our students.

    Claude Lane
