Coach Burns

I graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in May 2009. After moving to Texas and substitute teaching for a year, I was hired in Tyler. This is my 10th year teaching in Tyler ISD. I taught at Jack Elementary for 5 years and this is my 5th year at Owens. I have a huge passion for Physical Education, especially with the rise in childhood obesity in the US. I believe that every student can find something that they are good at that can become a lifetime fitness activity. I want all of my students to feel successful in something. Throughout the year in my classes students will learn a variety of sports skills, nutrition, health, and safety information, as well as lifetime fitness activities. I am also passionate about bringing core subjects into the games I play in the gym. Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts all have a place in the gym, where learning can be active and fun. I truly love my job, and I am so thankful to be your childs P.E. teacher.
