My Goal: I will improve my ability to execute lessons which incorporate reading and writing in my classroom to improve students' skills in analyzing non-fiction by implementing documented strategies from contemporary instructional literature.
1. “To win the war you must show up to the battlefield.” Attendance is critical. If you miss for any reason, it is your responsibility to communicate with your study group and me to ensure you make up what you miss. Be responsible.
2. “Everything is for a grade.” Maintain this mentality. Scholars approach all tasks with learning as the goal. Passing is a side-effect of learning… so everything (academic talking, reading, writing, constructing) is for a grade. THE BEST TESTING STRATEGY IS KNOWING THE ANSWERS.
3. “Success is not an illusion.” You can do this! As a student at Early College, you have accepted a challenge. All challenges come with some level of fear and insecurity. They are part of the process. Success comes from facing those fears and insecurities with maximum effort and recognizing when you need to lean on others. One of the most important assessments I have made in my 20 years experience in teaching and as an Infantryman in the Army is that those that work to pass or fail, have a good chance of passing or failing. Those that work to learn and improve in each task… pass 100% of the time.
