• The Change Begins

"If It Doesn't Challenge You, It Won't Change You"

The changing world of JTHS Theatre begins. I have been to the high school two different days now. Today was wonderful as I saw the "boys of fall", with athletic trainers and coaches, practicing on the football field, the band practicing in the parking lot, the custodian worker bees all over the campus, Mr. Cowan helping with keys and desks and rooms, Mrs. Skillern working on schedules, and Ms. Veazy building our team over the loud speaker, claiming, "Teamwork makes the DREAM WORK!" School comes quickly.

I experienced the kindness of the student-body today as I needed help moving my stuff on the dollie to the theatre. Ms. Anna, the sweet custodian, helped me ask a few young men taking a lunch break from band, to help move the dollie downstairs. They; Joshua, Justin, Pablo, and the sweet sophomore, graciously said yes, and began moving things quickly. We made it down the hot stairs, into the cool theatre. I talked to them about theatre classes and told them to please feel free to join any class. We will have a terrific time everyday!

And here is the 1st big change for the day: THEATRE CLASSES WILL BE HELD IN THE THEATER FOR 2019-20. Please enter through the door nearest the cafeteria, with the word, THEATER, above the door. Students will see an excited, blonde, music-loving, passionate theatre teacher. The great quote above, is for my future theatre students and parents, because we are all in this together. Please listen to the video below and we'll learn to change our world together. See you on Thursday or in two weeks.

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on the fighting of the old, but on building the new." -Socrates

There are moments when I can't believe that I will begin working with the talents of John Tyler HS in just a week. Change can be tough for some but I love and embrace change. My true passion is sharing with and learning from young artists and I've seen the possibility of great talents in the arts for several years at JTHS. Socrates' quote fits our change, teacher and theatre students together. I am here to build on the traditions and create new ones with my students and co-workers. Entering a new performing arts center will be the highlight of a theatre artist's experience. I know we can make it a dynasty for the great city of Tyler and John Tyler HS as we enter this new change. I found a great video on you tube taking me on a tour of the new John Tyler HS. Please watch and enjoy the change coming in our lives, quicker than we can imagine.
