• The Tyler ISD Head Start Mental Health Department is devoted to promoting social-emotional skills for our Head Start students by working with families, staff, and the community.

     We perform the following roles in order to promote positive development in the social-emotional domain:

    • Individual Counseling
    • Small Group Counseling
    • Classroom Guidance (Counselor)
    • Parenting Classes
    • Consultation with parents, teachers, administrators, etc.
    • Respond to crises and emergency situations
    • Provide information and resources to parents on a variety of issues
    • Referrals to Mental Health resources in the community

  • My name is Stacey Whitehead and I am the School Counselor for Head Start. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my Master's degree in administration.   I am a Certified School Counselor with 22 years of teaching Pre-K through 6th grade.

    I am very excited about my opportunity to work with students and their families. It is a joy to be able to encourage children as they strive to develop personal discipline and social skills while achieving academic success.By working collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents, I can help to identify and remove barriers to learning. Parent involvement is critical to helping a child be a successful student. The earlier parent involvement begins in a child’s educational career, the more powerful the effect!

  • My name is Eleanor Eckels and I am the Behavior Specialist for Head Start. I completed my undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University-Commerce, majoring in Sociology, and acquired my Masters in Counseling at East Texas Baptist University. Before entering the public school setting, I worked in the mental health field successfully transferred my skills and knowledge into the public school system as a special education teacher and a interventionist. I am thrilled to be a part of the Head Start family and to be a part of such an amazing community, doing a job I love. Working with children and their families, on a daily basis, is both a passion and a privilege. I strive to create a caring, safe, and engaging learning environment, which encourages students and their families to believe in themselves and to do their personal best.
