Credit by Exam (CBE)
Credit by Exam (CBE) is an assessment option which affords students the opportunity for promotion to the next grade level (K-5) and to gain course credit (6-12). You can view a detailed copy of Tyler ISD’s policy and procedures here.
There are two types of CBE:
Acceleration is considered based on assessments of the essential knowledge and skills (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) for each grade level. All students need to meet the 80% or above standard for each course (available courses here) taken in order to be considered for promotion or credit (requirements).
Students meeting the 80% standard can be considered for grade level promotion (K-8) or can attain course credits (9-12). Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to take exams for acceleration only for core courses for which there is no End-of-Course assessment required for graduation or for a course needed for graduation requirements or for the chosen graduation plan. In order to qualify for this type of CBE, a student cannot have any prior instruction in the grade level or course for which they are seeking credit.
The following Credit by Exam assessments windows are available for the 2019-20 school year:

School districts ARE NOT required to provide these assessments. If a student wishes to take this type of CBE, a parent/guardian must make arrangements directly with a participating testing organization offering CBEs.
Tyler ISD has arranged with the Testing Center at Tyler Junior College to proctor exams ordered by parents (proctoring information).
