Mr. Andy Haas
I am very excited to be teaching at Tyler ISD's Early College High School for the 2019-20 school year! My goal for ALL of my students is for each and every one of them to have a solid foundation in mathematics that will lead them to success into their post-secondary education and beyond! This year I will be teaching Pre-AP Algebra II to the ambitious and motivated students of the Early College High School. I am also excited to be our Math Department’s Campus Instructional Lead Teacher (CILT) and our campus’s assistant testing coordinator.
I am entering my 11th year of teaching & 8th year in Tyler ISD. This will be my 3rd year as an Owl at ECHS. I have previously taught 4th & 5th grade math at Clarkston Elementary and Algebra II and Pre-AP Algebra II at John Tyler High School, where I was a team leader on both campuses.
Before relocating to Tyler, I taught for three years in Milwaukee, WI teaching Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, and Technology to 4-year-old kindergartners up through 8th graders. I grew up and lived in Wisconsin before moving to Texas in 2011. My wife and 5-year-old daughter, Alexandra, keep me very busy and thankful. I enjoy football (Go Pack Go!) and watching movies.
My Texas teaching certifications are in Mathematics 4-12, and Generalist EC-6.
I believe every student is capable of becoming successful. I had a 10th grade student when I taught at John Tyler HS who showed me that it's not the teacher, but the student who must put in the effort and determination to being successful. The individual is responsible for achieving that greatness. That student took the lesson I introduced my students with in the opening week and realized they determined their level of success and they ended up in the top 10% of their graduating class. I am here to help students learn and grow while getting them ready for whatever may come next for them in their lives, by fostering a safe and caring environment to learn, fail, try, and succeed in.
