mission
Dance is a broad discipline of study in which students are
introduced to diverse styles, are encouraged to investigate the
creative process and are schooled in critical thinking skills
with literacy in dance. Our goal is to create a teaching
partnership between dance as a performance skill and dance as a
discipline that involves technique, wellness, history, cultural
products, socialization, recreation and cognitive knowledge.
Students in TISD can be exposed to the art of dance through
creative movement, rhythmic activities and cultural dances in
the early stages of development, therefore creating an
appreciation for dance as an art form. This can be accomplished
through the physical education and music departments on the
elementary and middle school campuses. Dance at the secondary
level follows the TEKS standards set by the State and is taught
by dance certified instructors for fine arts credit.
