The “Empty
Clay Bowls” project combined a unique service opportunity
with a unit of study on the art of ceramics. Students built
bowls from clay using various demonstrated techniques.
Next, community partners spoke to students about how
individuals and groups take action to improve the community.
From this service-learning project, we learned that we can make a difference in our community using our time and skills, a BIG difference! Thank you to the TISD Foundation and all those who have made this grant possible!

mproving
public education is vital to the future of our nation as
well as our community. In order to help school districts
meet the increasing challenges that lie ahead, a
collaborative effort involving community members and
businesses is necessary. The Tyler Independent School
District Foundation was established to support and
encourage the District's public schools. It serves as a
catalyst for uniting schools and their communities.
Through volunteer efforts and funding from businesses,
individuals and civic organizations, the goal of
educational excellence can be achieved.
NO GREATER IMPACT
As the
summer fades behind us
We see the coming of the fall
When school begins now once again
With the school bell’s strident call.
The magic of
the classrooms
Remains our major thrust
As we strive in this foundation
To support it as we must.
We are here
for a major purpose
To help in this great cause
We rally ‘round our teachers
And the students without pause.
Of all the
many functions
In Tyler along the way
None achieves the impact level
Found in classrooms every day.
For what
happens in the classroom
When all is said and done
Sets the stage for progress
For each and every one.
As the years
unfold and speed quickly by
We feel this quiet yearning
That every child may feel the joy
That comes with effective learning.
