OWENS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
"Be your best, do your best, act your best, Owens is the best!"

ALL ABOUT OWENS:

FACTS ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Hazel Owens Elementary opened in the fall of 1985, as a result of a bond issue, to relieve over crowdedness in other elementary schools.  It was built to serve 600 students.  In 1988, an additional wing was built because of rapid growth.  Owens is now the largest elementary school in Tyler Independent School District.  It is unique in that it is the only TISD school outside the city limits and is located in a beautiful wooded area.

Owens was named in honor of Hazel Owens, a longtime, well-respected employee of TISD.  She was fortunate to have been alive when the school opened.  Ms. Owens visited several times and even read to many classrooms of children.

We are very proud of our outstanding staff, parents and students.  We pride ourselves in providing a nurturing family atmosphere in which all students feel loved and successful.

MISSION STATEMENT

The primary mission of Owens Elementary is to meet the academic as well as emotional needs of children at their individual rates and styles of learning.  We try to accomplish this by using a wide variety of techniques that will help develop these essential skills.

Expectations are high for all children to learn through the provision of educational opportunities that are challenging and motivating.  Accountability is maintained by close supervision of the students which is reflected by test scores and daily achievement.

Owens is constantly striving to maintain a family atmosphere, one of support and loyalty.  Parent involvement plays an important role in assuring that this atmosphere is present.
