Grade Mustangs miss chance to tie
for City Championship Yesterday in front of a packed
homecoming crowd the 7th Grade Mustangs took the field in a valiant effort to
take a share of the District title. The Mustangs lost the coin toss and kicked
the ball off to the Huskies. The Mustangs held firm and made the Huskies earn
every yard as they finally took the ball into the end zone with the 1st quarter
winding down to take a 6 - 0 lead in the game. The Mustangs after stalling on
the first drive took over at the Huskies 25 yard line and drove the ball up the
middle as Reggie Gipson scored the first touchdown and extra points to put the
Mustangs up by 2.
In the closing minutes
of the first half, Travis Farmer stepped in front of a Husky
pass and ran from 37 yards out past several defenders and into
the end zone. Ben Harrison pushed the ball in for another 2
points giving the Mustangs a 16 - 6 lead going into the half.
In second half action,
the Huskies scored bringing them within 2 points with the score
Mustangs 16, Huskies 14. After battling back and forth, the
Mustangs took the ball into the end zone by a magnificent run by
Reggie Gipson. After the handoff, Reggie ran around left end,
saw too many huskies and headed back to the other side skirting
by several huskies and into the end zone for the score. The PAT
failed and this put the score at Mustangs 22, Huskies 14.
After the kickoff, the
Huskies started a methodical drive down the field chopping up
yards and getting out of bounds to stop the clock. With :48
seconds left the Huskies heaved a halfback pass down to the 2
yard line. The Huskies drove in and scored the extra points to
tie the game at 22 points apiece. The Mustangs had a great
season allowing only one touchdown before yesterdays game. This
closes the Mustangs out with 4 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.
Head hunters for
yesterday's game were Ryan Rendon, Ryan Rendon, and Ryan Rendon for several
crunching blocks to the Huskies. I am sure that those Huskies are still feeling
those hits today. Thanks to ALL the Mustangs for a great season. Coach Murry
and Coach Powell are so proud of how the team performed, practiced, worked
together, and encouraged each other all season long. Great Job Mustangs!

Grade Mustangs set up chance at
City Championship
The 7th Grade Mustangs were in action at the JT Practice
field in a second downpour in as many weeks. The rain did
nothing to damper the spirit of the Mustangs who crushed the
Gophers 30 to 0.
The Mustangs went
three and out on several series yesterday. Not because they
couldn't move the ball but because they scored almost at
will. No series lasted more than 4 downs. The Mustangs
actually scored on four of their first five possessions.
Reggie Gipson scored
on 3 touchdowns and a PAT giving the Mustangs 26 points.
Jorian Jackson helped his own cause by running a 20 yard
bootleg into the end zone for 6 points. He also added a PAT
during the game. Rounding out the Scoring for the Mustangs
was Ben Harrison with a PAT of his own. The Gophers didn't
seem to want the football as they handed it back to the
Mustangs on 4 different occasions. Recovering fumbles for
Moore was Ryan Rendon, Tristan Wade, T.J. Griffin and
Michael Lee with 1 apiece.
The Mustangs totally
dominated the Gophers and are now looking forward to their
last remaining game. The Mustangs are now 4 and 1 on the
season. The Mustangs will play for a piece of the City
Championship against Hubbard who is coming to the game at
Rose Stadium as with an undefeated season on the line. If
the Mustangs win, they will tie Hubbard for a share of the
City Championship. Come out on Homecoming week to the last
game of the season for the Mustangs at Rose Stadium at
4:00pm and show your support.

Grade Lady Mustangs skewer the Hoggs
Hmmmm, anybody hungry for some smoked ham?
The Lady Mustangs have some served up hot and ready after their meeting
with the Hoggs last night. The White team smoked
ham in two games cooking up their wins 25-22 and 25-23. What a game!
This was one of the most intense match-ups of the season. Finding her
way to impossible passes was Amanda Walston and carving away at the Hoggs from the service line was Kashanti Flowers. They are this weeks
Head Hunters. Come on down.Keeping the smoker
hot, the red team “skewered” the Hoggs in three games with scores of
25-23, 20-25, and 25-12. This game was a real nail biter and kept us on
our toes. All the girls played in the new rotation and did an
outstanding job. Head Hunters this week are Kabrea Pipkins and Abby
Halbrook for their finesse at the net. If you missed this
one, then you missed one of the best matches of the season. However, you
can still catch the action next week at Dogan Middle School.

Grade Mustangs back on winning track
The 7th Grade Mustang
Football team got back on track yesterday in a steady downpour
at the REL practice field. The Mustangs struggled through most
of the first quarter with slippery conditions that made holding
the football extremely difficult. The Mustangs decided not to
hand off and Jorian Jackson took the ball around the right end
for a 35 yard touchdown run. The PAT failed putting the
Mustangs up 6-0 in the waning minutes of the first quarter.
The Mustangs finally
turned things around in the second quarter with Reggie Gipson
running around the end for 6 more points After getting the ball
back Ben Harrison drove the ball up the middle of the field for
his first touchdown of the season. This gave the Mustangs an 18
point lead. In the closing seconds of the half, Michael Lee dove
on an on side kick up the middle of the field giving the
Mustangs the ball with seconds left. Reggie Gipson broke two
tackles and ran around the left end for the Mustangs last
touchdown of the game. Ben Harrison carried the ball in for the
PAT finishing the scoring for the Mustangs.
Tristan Taylor and Arthur Palacios
both had interceptions in the second half but the Mustangs
could not get their second offense going. Head hunters for
the game were the Mustangs second defense which played the
entire second half and did not allow a score.
Final Score: Mustangs 28,
Falcons 0. The Mustangs move to 3 - 1 on the year. This was the
Mustangs third shutout of the year. In 16 quarters of football
so far this season, the Mustangs have been scored on once. The

at the REL field.

8th Grade Mustangs
lose to Hogg The 8th grade football team took
one on the chin last night at Rose Stadium. The Mustangs fell to the Hogg
Razorbacks 34-6 in a very physical contest. Fumbles and missed tackles took the
Mustangs out of the game early however, the offense was able to move the ball
all night long on the Razorbacks. Next week the Mustangs hope to re-establish
their winning ways against the Dogan Falcons at Robert E. Lee. Due to the
lack of tackling the Head Hunter Award will take a week off.

stayed focused and executed their new rotations with machine like

Grade Mustangs spank the Vikings again
Thursday in Football
action at the Robert E. Lee football field, the Mustangs took on the
Boulter Vikings for the second time in as many weeks. The Mustangs
came out determined not to let the Vikings win the rematch. On the
opening kickoff, Teddy Hawkins scampered 65 yards for the first
touchdown of the game. The PAT attempt failed and after less than
15 seconds of play the Mustangs were ahead 6 to zero. Once the
Vikings got the ball they really didn’t know what to do with it so
they gave it back to the Mustangs who then scooted another 57 yards
for a second touchdown after only two touches on the football.
Scoring the PAT was Witt Seeber making the score 14 to zero.
The
Mustang defense swarmed and stymied the Vikings all day long.
Getting the ball back the Mustangs wasted no time and Jorian Jackson
took another handoff and ran it into the end zone for his second
score. After Jack Calhoun added the 2 point conversion, the score
was 22 to zero. Completing the scoring was Jorian Jackson. This
made the score 30 to 0. In two games the Mustangs remain unbeaten
and have yet to be scored upon.
Headhunters for the game were Chandler Hill with an amazing hit on
one of the biggest opposing players from the Vikings. Chandler
stopped the play for no gain. Phillip White did a great job at
corner keeping Boulter in check all game long. Come out today to
Rose Stadium to cheer on these amazing Mustangs in action at 4:00pm
as they host the Razorbacks from Hogg and look to go 3 and 0 on the
season. |

8th Grade
Lady Mustangs travel to Stewart
The Lady Mustangs traveled to
Gopher land on yesterday and both teams entered the gym with
V-I-C-T-O-R-Y in mind. When the Minor team hit the floor the
Lady Gophers saw a light at the end of the tunnel taking the
Lady Mustangs to a third and deciding game. The Lady Mustangs
dimmed that light as Briana Sherfield confidently went to the
serving line down 18-22. The ladies composed themselves and
galloped to victory by the final score of 25-22. The head
hunters are: Briana Sherfield and Destiny Robinson.
The Major team
came to the floor a little sluggish, but once they got into the
swing of things dictated the flow of the game. The Queen of the
court was Ciara Johnson who served 10 straight points to take
the lead at 24-21 and ultimately clinching the win. In game two
the spotlight was shared when Jada Ford and Kennedy Renshaw went
on a serving binge, serving the last 14 points to force the
Gophers back underground as they scampered away with the
victory. It's going to be a scorcher next week as we travel to
Husky land. It will be great if we could pack out the house
with nay's of the Mustangs rather than the howling of Huskies.
We hope to see you the there. The Minor teams' record is 3-1
while the Major teams' record is 4-0.

8th Grade
Football notches first win of the
season Congratulations to the 8th grade football team who beat
Lufkin “A” last night in their own back yard. The Mustangs showed a
never quit attitude by hammering the Lufkin running back in his own
end zone for a safety with just a minute left in the game to go ahead
8-7. The Mustangs outplayed the Lufkin Pack all night but
unfortunately had some big mistakes that caused them to have to
fight back in the fourth quarter. Some of the big plays of the game
were: A 15 yard pass from Bowser to Tankersley on 4th
down to keep a 4th quarter drive alive; A reverse pass
from Xabier Gordan to Darion Flowers for a 40 yard gain. A 30 yard
pass completion from Bowser to Henry Dunn and an outstanding kickoff
effort by Elisha Williams who kicked the ball deep on every
kickoff. The entire defense stepped up and played big against the
passing attack of the Lufkin Panthers. This was a huge win for
these young men and their hard work has begun to pay off. Mustang
don’t stop working hard the season is still young. Great job
Mustangs!!
Head Hunters for the
game were DeVondre Shears and Xabier Gordan for
their game winning tackle that caused the go ahead safety. |

The 7th grade Mustang football team
opened the season in good form yesterday at Rose Stadium when they
hosted the Vikings of Boulter. Following the opening kickoff by
the Vikings, the Mustangs own Reggie Gipson scampered around the
right end for 60 yards and a touchdown. Following his lead, Oscar
Ballesteros drove up the middle of the field for the PAT making the
score Mustangs 8, Vikings 0. The Vikings were stymied all day long
by the Mustangs. After a quick 4 and out the Mustangs took over
again from the 45 yard line and began a drive to pay dirt. Reggie
Gipson again finished the drive around the end for 11 yards putting
the Mustangs up 14 – 0. The PAT failed after the Mustangs were
charged for an offside penalty. |
The Mustangs finished the half with a 14 to 0
lead. Getting the ball back after a quick turnaround from Boulter,
the Mustangs fumbled the ball back to the Vikings. On the next
drive the Mustangs took control of the game with a 55 yard touchdown
run from Jorian Jackson putting the game away from the Vikings.

The White Team took their

The Red Team won their

8th Grade Football teams on the road in Longview
The 8th grade
football team fought a hard fight last night in Longview against
Forest Park but unfortunately came up just 2 points short losing
18-16. Forest Park struck first
with a 60 yard halfback pass, but the Mustangs held them out for the
2 point conversion giving the Eagles and early 6-0 lead. However,
the Mustangs marched back early in the 2nd quarter and
scored on a pass from Tyus Bowser to Xabeir Gordan. Darion Flowers
followed behind the blocking of Pullum, Gordan, Mobley and Page for
the 2 point conversion to put the Mustangs up 8-6. Late in the
first half the Eagles passing attack struck again scoring on a 40
yard touchdown pass to go up 12-8. The defense stepped up again to
keep them out of the end zone on the 2 point conversion. The
Halftime score was 12-8.
The 3rd
quarter went back and forth with no scoring but early in the 4th
once again there was a break down in the Mustang secondary and the
Eagles connected on yet another half back pass to reach the 10 yard
line. Three plays later the Eagles found pay dirt again to go up
18-8 and yet again were held out on the 2 point try. The Mustangs
bowed their backs and refused to give up as Bowser connected to
Davier Harris on a 45 yard completion. The offense gained momentum
and continued to drive inside the 10 yard line and once again Gordon
scored on a dive play over Adam Lopez. Darion Flowers added the 2
point conversion to make the game 18-16.
On the kickoff the
Mustangs rushed down the field and Darion Flowers put a big time hit
on the ball carrier causing a fumble which Moore recovered. As the
momentum was changing to the side of the Mustangs they began to move
the ball, however, on Fourth and One the blocking up front could not
produce and the Eagles regained possession. Once again the Mustang
Defense held and gave the Offense one more try but once again time
was not on our side.
All in All this was a
great “Never Give Up” effort that the Mustangs should be proud of.
With much more hard work on the field and in the classroom this team
will be a winner. Great Job on your first Game Mustangs!! Head Hunters were: Darion
Flowers for his big hit on the kick off team which caused a fumble.
Tyus Bowser for a his big hit behind the line of scrimmage from the
defensive end position. |

Lady
Mustangs take care of Boulter |
The Lady
Mustangs came to the court ready to rock and roll. Both teams
defeated Boulter in two games. There were a few close calls,
but the ladies rallied the troops and took care of business.
The headhunters
from the Minor team are: Jackie Ramos, Kelsey Wiley, and Tra'Vonna
Chancellor. These three ladies served a minimum of seven points a piece
totaling 29 of the 50 points (that's 58%) needed to win in two games. The headhunters for
the Major team are: Kennedy Reneshaw, Ciara Johnson and Blanca
Guzman. Serving was key for us yesterday and these three unlocked the door
for the win.
This was the first
game of the season and we look forward to improving from game to game. We
would like to thank all of you that were in attendance on yesterday.
There's nothing like being able to represent your school and have a
community of peers, parents, teachers, and administration come out to
support you. Thank you again and we will see you at the next game bring a
friend.
