Discipline
There
is often a direct correlation between behavior and student
achievement. The majority of our 5th graders practice
self-discipline. They are respectful and do what is asked of
them. Unfortunately, there are some that are not practicing
self-discipline and they have to be corrected 3 or 4 times
during one class period. We try to help the students by giving
them one or two warnings. Continuing to be disobedient is a
discipline problem. Discipline is absolutely essential in the
classroom if learning is to take place. If a student is
disruptive, then the teacher has to spend valuable class time
reminding them of the rules, asking them to comply, and writing
down non-compliances in the discipline folder. This routine robs
the entire class of their education when done with ¼ of the
students every day. The behavior folder that we send home every
Thursday is an effort to communicate with our large number of
parents about their child’s behavior in a timely manner. The
behavior marks are cumulative for the 6 weeks. If your child
receives an ‘N’ or a ‘U’, that means that they have caused
several disruptions. Please call or send a note requesting a
conference with us if this is the case for your child. Our
conference time is 9:00 to 9:45 Monday thru Friday. We are also
available after school from 3:15 to 3:45 on Monday, Tuesday, and
Thursday. Thank you for your help with this issue.
