Student Computer/Internet Use
Permission to Use Campus Internet
The student Acceptable Use Policy is part of the TISD Student Behavior Code of Conduct & Attendance Policy that students take home at the beginning of the year. If students have their parent/guardian permission to access the Internet, the parent/guardian signature should be on the first page of the Student Agenda. The parent/guardian signature is separate from the parent/guardian signature granting permission for the campus website on the second page of the Student Agenda.
The signed agenda MUST be shown each and every time a student wishes to use the Internet. Please understand this is for Internet use only. There are computer programs other than the Internet available for students to use.
Acceptable Uses of Campus Computer/Internet
The purpose of providing access to technology (computer, computer programs, the Internet, etc.) is to support education; therefore, use at Hubbard is limited to school related topics. Because students utilize computers throughout campus, questionable topics may require a note from the teacher making the assignment.
Inappropriate Use of Campus Computers/Internet
The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of those privileges. When a student demonstrates inappropriate use of computers/Internet, the faculty member witnessing the behavior will need to COMPLETE AN OFFICE INFRACTION REFERRAL. FACULTY MEMBER WILL ALSO NEED TO PLACE A YELLOW DOT ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THE STUDENTS AGENDA BELOW PARENTS SIGNATURE ALONG WITH THE DATE AND BRIEF DETAIL OF THE INAPPROPRIATE USE. This acts as a warning to the student. A SECOND INAPPROPRIATE USE IS DENOTED BY A RED DOT AND THE SAME PROCEDURE IS FOLLOWED. When the second Office Referral is received for inappropriate computer/Internet use, the student will be unable to use the computers for the remainder of the school year except for the Accelerated Reader program. Inappropriate behavior may be defined as, but not limited to: physical damage to a computer; using computers without permission; using the Internet without permission; printing without permission; not limiting Internet search to school related topics; making any changes on computers, giving out personal information on the Internet (entering contests, using e-mail, chat rooms, instant messaging, etc.), downloading any type of program, accessing sites containing controversial material, sexually explicit material, how to make a bomb, etc. Accidents do happen! When students unintentionally go to a controversial site, they MUST “back out” immediately or immediately notify the teacher without drawing other student’s attention to the computer screen.
Saving Student Work
Students should save all work in their own personal home drive (H: Drive) unless directed by a teacher to save in a “shared” folder for class projects, such as “Video Storage on Hubbard.” They may also save to flash drives, CD’s and disks (although floppy disks are no longer recommended as they are subject to damage and corruption. Students may also access their files saved to the H: Drive from home using the TISD Stoneware Portal. Certain teachers may have special requirements for specific work to be done only at school – and not from home. |
