The Library Mission
The mission of the Bell Elementary Library is to promote collaboration among teachers, students, and parents to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment in which best practices are used to insure the highest level of achievement and information literacy for every student.
Philosophy
Bell Library provides materials to promote reading and to support the curriculum of our school. Resources are available for our students and staff in print, non-print, and electronic formats. The library goal is to enable our students to become lifelong readers and learners.
Procedures
Kindergarten and first grade students visit the Library weekly for literature appreciation lessons. The librarian works collaboratively with the classroom teachers to schedule research projects and literature appreciation lessons for second through fifth grade.
The Big Six research model is used for information problem solving.
Circulation Policy
The Bell Library functions on a flexible schedule with an open access policy. Students may come anytime to check out library books. Kindergarten and first grade students may check out one book at a time. Students in grade two through five, may check out two books at a time. Parents may check out up to five books. Books may be kept for one week and then can be renewed. Patrons must return books to the library in order to renew them. Books lost or damaged beyond repair must be paid for by the library user.
