The third grade students are “Rocking and Rolling” into the fourth six weeks with an investigation into the forces of nature. Students will research the forces of nature and how they change the Earth in the PYP unit, We Will Rock You. They are creating volcanoes, simulating earthquakes and more. When asked about beginning the new unit the children were full of inquiries into the unit. “What makes some tsunamis bigger than others?” Shazeen “Can more than one kind of storm happen in one day?” Hien “How deep is the Earth from the top to the middle?” Stephanie Did a big earthquake separate the continents?” Michael Tips for the Six Weeks: Reading You can ask your children the five W’s following a chapter or just a page or paragraph. 5W’s Who, What, When, Where, Why This will help them think as they read and will increase their comprehension of what has been read.Remember to read and record your time on the Six Flags Reading Log. Math Memorization of the math facts will help as the children use strategies while working through word problems. Drill and practice with flashcards is a great activity to do at home. Science and Social Studies Discuss the recent earthquake with your child and discuss how it has impacted the country of Haiti and the world. Students are Rice will collect change that will be use to purchase supplies that will be sent. The Third Grade Team
