Greetings from the President Hello Rice Rangers!! It’s hard to believe we are already in the 3rd six weeks of school. The last six weeks was full of fun activities and programs. We loved seeing all of our grand friends during Lunch with Grand Friends’ week. The book fair stayed very busy that week as well. We had a great aluminum can drive to raise funds for keeping our campus beautiful. Family Fun Night was a great success, and Red Ribbon Week ended October on a great note. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make these events possible. December will begin with our clothing drive for our partner school. Please help our students foster a giving heart through this important program. We will also have our second PTA general meeting followed by a Winter Extravaganza with the 4th and 5th graders on Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Rice Café. I hope you find the upcoming holidays meaningful and relaxing. Enjoy your time with your family. Our children are growing up fast!! Happy Holiday Season, Laura Miller Rice PTA President

The 2008-2009 Acquisitions Committee is excited to be finalizing the teacher/parent requests for the fall. We have been working on securing improvements to our sound system, adding to our literacy lab, and supplying needs for our art program. Individual grade level requests are also being researched, as well as, many other book and equipment needs. How exciting it is to learn about so many programs and interests that will be directly affected by our PTA and the funds it has worked to raise. Thanks to all who have helped with this endeavor, as well as, those who have agreed to serve on the Acquisitions Committee. More information to come in the following weeks, stay tuned!
The Rice Elementary Second Annual “Art from the Heart” Auction will be held February 20, 2009. We are still in need of Project Coordinators to work with each classroom to create a project that will represent each student in the class. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Stacey Drew at 903-920-5267 or email staceydrew@me.com. Thank you,
Thank you, I cannot begin to say thank you enough to everyone who helped make Family Fun Night a success. We had a beautiful evening full of fun!! This night would not have been possible without our sponsors and volunteers. A huge thank you goes to Rhonda Hopkins for stepping in as the Family Fun Night Co-chair. Thank you to each person who worked a shift at a game, helped serve food, and sold tickets. Thank you to everyone who stayed late and came back on Saturday to help clean up, and to those behind the scenes who stayed late and counted money. Our pumpkin patch and stars in the hallways were evidence of our supportive families. We also appreciate all of the teachers and staff that participated in the coffee can raffle. This is always a favorite for our students. Our community sponsors came through for us, as always. Thank you to Fire Station #2, the EMT’s from ETMC, Southside Bank, Cole and Company, Café Tazza, Sylvan Learning Center, Legacy Hospice, Heritage Home Health, Sonoma Grill, McCallister’s Deli, Randall Dodge, Bruno’s Pizza, Chez Bazan, Sam’s Deli, Papacitas, Heartland Ham, Tyler Athletics, Punkin Patch, Times Square Cinema, Posados Café, Anwar Khalifa with Pyramid Homes, The Todd Parker Family, Sky Ranch, Carmike Cinema, CiCi’s Pizza, Tyler Beverage, and a few other anonymous donors. Thank you, Mrs. Sturm, for your support of Family Fun Night, and for all your help in preparing the facilities. Not only did our Rice Rangers and their families have a great time at Family Fun Night, we also raised money to purchase items for the classrooms and campus. Eating Lunch With Your Child on TAKS Testing Days…
Due to test security, please do not plan to eat lunch with your child on TAKS testing days. In addition, please do not bring your child his / her lunch. Circle Drive Tips
Morning: 1. Pull all the way down. 2. Unload after the flagpole. 3. Have students exit the car door closest to the sidewalks. 4. When turning onto Old Bullard Rd only turn right to keep from backing traffic up on Carriage. 5. Students who are not in class by 8:00 a.m. are tardy and parents are required to sign them in.
Afternoon: 1. Pull all the way down. 2. Each car must display a CAR RIDER TAG. 3. Print in BOLD letters: first name, last name, and grade on CAR RIDER TAG. Example: Charlie Brown 3 4. Hold tag up in front windshield to make it more visible to the person calling for students. 5. All students are expected to be picked up by 3:15 p.m. Thanks for helping us keep your kids safe.
