Helpful Hints

What can you do to improve your performance in a foreign langauge?

1)  First and foremost study outside of class! - Like I wouldn't mention that again. ;)

2)  Watch the Spanish channels offered on cable or satellite.  In Tyler, channel 15, Univisión, is one of the better quality channels and you can find comedy, variety, drama and news 24 hours a day.  I recommend trying to watch a "novela", short for "telenovela", or soap opera.  They will more often than not speak slower and clearer than on a news or comedy program, and the visual clues to what is going on in the storyline will help you understand what you are hearing and figure out words you don't know.

3)  Buy music.  Music is something you can listen to over and over.  You can learn the words through repetition.  Music can also help with your accent if you are the type of person that sings on the way to school or work.  If you decide to go this route, come speak to me and I can make some suggestions depending on your musical taste.
