Get Ready for College

[]  Concentrate on doing well in classes.  College admission officers weigh junior and senior grades more  heavily.

[]    Begin preparing for the PSAT and the SAT Reasoning Test.

[]    Start on or update your student resume. Save it to a disk to update when new honors, activities,  etc. need to be added.

[]  Meet with Admissions Officers during their visits to REL.

[]  Take the PSAT in October.

All  juniors are automatically registered – paid for by TISD.

[]  Begin to think about preferences in colleges such as location, size, emphasis, etc. and narrow down interests.

[]  Attend the area College Night

[]  PSAT scores arrive.  Study your results and address weaknesses with  prep materials and tutoring.

[]  If your college requires it, plan to take the SAT Subject Tests while course material is still fresh in your mind. 
 Be sure to check with admissions requirements for each university on SAT Subject Test requirements (if any).

[]  Continue to gather information on colleges – narrow the list.

[]  Begin scheduling of courses for senior year and discussion of college search.

[]  Pick up a registration bulletin for SAT or ACT and mark deadlines in calendar.  Plan to take an  SAT/ACT administration sometime during the spring semester.

[]  Arrange college visits during Spring Break.

[]  Register for the AP Exams.

[]  Write or e-mail colleges to request view books and/or applications for fall admissions.

[]  Explore summer options for work or special programs.

[]  Update resume with this year’s extracurricular activities,

 awards earned and any special honors.

[]   Participate in service projects, summer jobs, summer programs.

[]  Draft outlines of required application essays.

[]  Draft a scholarship essay--include goals and dreams

[]  Prepare an "everything anyone ever wanted to know about me" sheet for recommendations

[]  Set up a filing system for college materials and scholarship apps.

[]  AP scores sent to students.
