Scheduling Instructions (2008-2009)

You should have a course guide, report card or transcript, and a choice sheet to assist you as you complete your choice sheet for next year.

Check graduation requirements (pg. 6, 7 in course guide).

Record grades and courses on Texas Achievement Plan (pg. 93 in course guide).

Complete Career Interest Survey (pgs. 87-92 in course guide) Circle Career Cluster(s) that interest you.

Select core courses- English, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

Check pre-requisites. (Example: Computer Tech 2 requires successful completion of Computer Tech 1.)

Select required academic courses.

Select athletics or physical education classes. (Talk with coaches and think about your commitment to the sport--selecting double blocked athletic classes will result in a double blocked PE class for the entire year whether you remain in the sport or not).

Select electives. *Research electives-- choices you make will be final- (talk with upperclassmen, parents, friends, and teachers)

Complete your choice sheet by filling up 8 blocks. Count one semester classes as .5 block and count double blocked classes as 2 blocks.

PreAP/AP/PreIB/IB  courses are recommended as the best preparation for college.               Consider your strengths when choosing PAP/PIB and AP/IB courses. Choosing a PAP/AP course or the PIB/IB Program means that you are making a commitment and you will be expected to follow through with your commitment. PAP/AP English classes have summer reading and the lists and are available from teachers, on the TISD/REL website, and at the REL front desk. Students are responsible for obtaining the reading lists. “I didn’t know summer reading was required” is not an excuse.

*Interested in the IB program? Mrs. Martin will be available to answer questions.

*Alternates are a must! Some classes may not make or conflict. Counselors will have to choose alternates-you want them to have your input!

*No schedule changes will be made after Feb. 27th as next year’s staffing at Robert E. Lee will be determined by your choices.

*Colleges are becoming more selective-do not take the easy way out. Use all four years of high school—all eight semesters to prepare for your freshman year of college.
