William Anderson Peete
In addition to his work as an educator, Mr. Peete was a brilliant writer and a gifted public speaker. He edited a popular column in The Dallas Express under the pseudonym of "Old Hickory." As a public speaker, he received numerous request to speak in various sections of the state. Also, his work as a leader of the Boy Scouts merited much praise. Mr. Peete served as principal until his health became so impaired that he had to give up his work in 1914, just prior to his death. He was buried in the Universe Cemetery, a few miles east of the Tyler city limits. - "The Proud Century Tyler Public Schools
