Text Box: Hubbard as a MYP Pilot:   Hubbard Middle School is a MYP pilot of the Tyler Independent School District IB program.  A pilot program is a planning and implementing  stage for faculty and staff prior to the certification of a program.  Upon completion of a 2 step application process a school may become certified by the IBO.    What is MYP?   The IBMYP is an international educational program that has been developed to meet the diverse personalities of students in grades 6-10.  It provides an educational structure consisting of experiences and challenges that develop life long skills appropriate to this period of adolescence.    MYP is guided by three fundamental concepts: · Holistic Learning:  Emphasizes the connections between disciplines and allows students to view global issues from each perspective. · Intercultural Awareness: Develops students understanding and attitudes of their own cultures and others around them. · Communication: Allows students to reflect and express knowledge in multiple forms.  Provides the student with an opportunity to inquire.   The distinctive core of the MYP is the Areas of Interaction: · Approaches to Learning (ATL):  Students become responsible for their learning · Community, Action and Service (CAS): Students understand their responsibility for the community and world they live in · Human Ingenuity: Students explore contributions of human creativity and reflect on the consequences · Environment: Students understand nature and our responsibility to it · Health and Social Education: Students become aware of themselves and those around them   IB learners strive to be: · Inquirers · Knowledgeable · Thinkers · Communicators · Principled · Open-minded · Caring · Risk-takers · Balanced · Reflective   For more information about the IBMYP go to: www.ibo.org
