Cafeteria
Program
Tyler ISD Food & Nutrition Services Department is pleased to announce a
new Point of Sale (P.O.S.) system in our school cafeterias. The P.O.S. is
a computerized system that allows every student in the district to have his or
her own personal account. The money used to purchase the meal ticket can
now be deposited into the students individual account and used to purchase
breakfast, lunch and/or snacks. Even free and reduced students may deposit
money into their accounts for snacks. Furthermore, since every student
must now have a student ID card that can only access their account, the
identification of free and reduced students is dramatically reduced.
What does this mean to parents and students? First, if a parent has
more than one child at different schools, they can now write one check or send
money and we can deposit it into all the students' accounts from any campus once
all schools are on line. Second, if a parent would like to purchase meals
for an entire week, month, semester, and/or year, they can now do so. The
system will automatically print out a letter informing you when your account is
getting low. Third, since this system works just like a bank account, it
is a good and safe tool for educating a student of how accounts work in the real
world. The old meal tickets were as good as cash, and losing them could
have meant losing your child's money. Furthermore, now if your child
transfers between schools there is no need for a refund and another check
written to a new school because their account transfers with them. Even if
you have money left in your account at the end of the year, the P.O.S. system
will roll your money over to the next school year. However, refunds can be
made if requested.
These are just a few of the benefits of this
system. If you have any questions and/or concerns please feel free to
contact the Food & Nutrition Services Department.
