School Hours: School Day 8:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Children who arrive before 7:45 will report to the gym unless they will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria. Children will be dismissed to their classrooms at 7:45. Adults will be on campus early, but there are no planned or supervised activities. Children should not arrive before 7:15. |

Dress Code: Any article of clothing, jewelry, body decoration, or hair style extreme enough to create a distraction or disturb the normal routine of school shall be deemed inappropriate. The students at Dixie Elementary will wear a school uniform for the 2008-2009 school year. The students will wear a forest green, navy, or white polo style shirt with a collar and khaki or navy pants, uniform style shorts, skirts or a jumper. NO SKORTS. ALL students' shirts must be tucked in. ALL third, fourth and fifth grade students must also wear a brown or black belt. |

Attendance: All children are to be in attendance each day unless they are ill or a family emergency arises. Parents are expected to call the school office, 262-2040, EACH day a child is absent or send a note upon the child's return to school. Class will begin promptly at 8:00a.m. Punctuality is important and tardiness interrupts instructional time. PLEASE help your child to arrive on time. Students who are tardy need to get an admittance slip before going to class. |

Campus Rules: Self discipline is a very important part of your child's learning. We encourage you to help us by discussing the value of good behavior, good attitude, respect for others, and the care of personal and school property. Thank you for your help at home with this valuable concept. |

Teachers' Hours: Classroom teachers are at school from 7:45 until 3:45. All teachers have a conference period during the day. Teachers CANNOT take time from the classroom for an unscheduled conference. If you need to talk with your child's teacher, call the school office and ask that the teacher return your call at his/her break or conference time. |

Volunteers: If you are interested in becoming a Dixie volunteer, please complete and return the volunteer request form to the office. We HIGHLY encourage your active involvement in your child's education! |

Classroom Visits: When coming to our school for any reason during the day, go first to the school office. All visitors are asked to sign in at the office before going elsewhere in the building. This is for your child's safety. If is is necessary to pick up your child before regular 3:00p.m. dismissal, go to the office to check out your child FIRST, PLEASE! |

Health Services: A nurse is on our campus each day. The nurse provides various services: vision and hearing test, health screenings, and maintaining immunization records and aiding our students with special medical needs, etc. If your child becomes ill or injured seriously, we will contact you immediately. If you cannot be reached, the enrollment card emergency information will be used. Medication cannot be administered by the teacher. Doctor prescribed medication can be given by the nurse. A form MUST be filled out and signed by the parent or guardian. It is kept on file. If your child is ill, he/she should remain at home until he/she has been COMPLETELY FREE of temperature for 24 hours. If your child becomes ill during the night, he/she should NOT be sent to school the following day. |

Transportation: Children living two or more miles from school are eligible to ride the bus. If you have questions about your eligibility or if the bus is unusually late in reaching your home either in the morning/afternoon, call the school district's transportation department at 262-1135. As a rule, the school has no information about late buses. Students are NOT ALLOWED to ride a bus other than the one assigned. NO EXCEPTIONS! Safe and appropriate bus behavior must be used. |

Conferences: Communication is an essential part of the educational program. A general conference will be held early in the school year. This conference is designed for you to meet your child's teacher and become acquainted with the goals and objectives they hope to accomplish during the school year. Individual conferences will be scheduled later. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher, please call the school office or send a note and a time will be scheduled at the teacher's conference period or after school. The teacher will return your call if you call the office and leave a message. |

Student Progress: Progress reports will go home on the fourth Tuesday of each six weeks' period, if your child's grade average is borderline or below 70 in a subject. Report cards will be sent home on Thursday following the end of the six weeks' period. Progress reports and report cards MUST be signed by the parent or guardian and returned to the classroom teacher as soon as possible. Please call the office and schedule a conference if you have any questions. |

Field Trips: Students are not allowed to participate in any off-campus trip WITHOUT the completed and signed parental field trip permission form. Please return the form the next day after your child brings it home. Have it ready the night before. |

Withdrawals: If you are moving and need to withdraw your child, call the office in order to get the paperwork ready for you to take to the new school. Call early in the day in order to give enough time to the teacher. |

|
Student Information Changes: Please notify the school office when there is any change in either your address or telephone number. In case of emergency, our records MUST be kept up to date with CURRENT information. |

PTA: All parents are urged to join this active, involved organization and help support its projects during the school year. Many of our school's "extra touches" are provided by the PTA. For more information click on PTA on the Dixie home page. |

Replacing Books: If a book is lost, check in the office or library for the cost of replacement. If a lost book is found later, money will be refunded. If a book is damaged, a fine will be charged. If there is significant damage to a book, cost of replacing the book is required. Students will not be issued new books or report cards until outstanding charges are paid. |
