Facts About Our School

Dixie School had its beginning in 1924 with the consolidation of the three, two-room, country schools of Black Fork, Pleasant Retreat, and Spring Hill.  The name Dixie was chosen for the new school because it was located about six miles west of Tyler on the old Highway 64, known locally as Dixie Road.

After several additions to the campus through the years, Dixie School became a part of the Tyler Independent School District in 1956. That consolidation occurred at the same time that eight other small districts also merged with Tyler Independent School District.

In 1978-79, Dixie Elementary School opened in a new building at 213 Patton Lane with 24 classrooms and a campus of 25.528 acres.  In 1987, a new eight classroom building was completed.

Dixie serves students in grades Head Start through fifth grade.
