PRE - KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION |
Tyler ISD will offer Pre-K programs
at three locations for the
2008 - 2009 school year. Full-day Bilingual classes will be
offered at Bonner and Douglas elementary schools and a half-day English class will
be offered at Owens Elementary School.
What is the purpose of the Pre-K
Program?
To develop skills necessary for success in
the regular public school curriculum, including language, mathematics and
social skills. Pre-K is not daycare; students will be engaged and
learning in a classroom setting. Is my
child eligible?
To be eligible for the district Pre-K Program a child must be 4
years old on or before September 1, 2008. The child is eligible for
enrollment in the Pre-K program if he/she meets any or
all of the following criteria:
The child is limited English
proficient (LEP),
The child is educationally disadvantaged*,
The family meets the criteria of "homeless",
The child of an active duty member of the armed
forces,
The child of a member of the armed forces who was
injured or killed while
serving on active duty,
The child is or has been in foster care
*If qualifying by income, documentation of all sources of income
for all
members of the household must be submitted.
How do I enroll my child?
You will enroll your child at the campus they are to attend.
When enrolling, parents must bring proof of residency, the childs original
birth certificate, social security card and immunization records to the
school. Proof of all income sources must also be submitted for those
eligible under the "educationally disadvantaged" criteria.
Registration Dates and Times:
Registration will be accepted
on a "first come, first served" basis at Owens Elementary School.
Registration for bilingual Pre-K at Bonner and Douglas Elementary Schools is accepted on a
"space available" basis.
What are the hours of attendance
for my child?
Bonner Elementary:
8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Douglas Elementary:
8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Owens Elementary:
7:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
or 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Children must be on campus by 7:30 a.m. to eat breakfast or by 11:30 a.m. to
eat lunch at Owens Elementary.
Can my child ride the school bus?
Transportation is not provided
for Pre-K students. It is the parent's responsibility to drop off and
pick up their child each day.
