The department of Instructional Assessments provides printed Performance Plus benchmark assessments and answer sheets for grades 2-11 in math, science, social studies, reading, and writing to each campus in Tyler ISD. After these tests are administered, scanned, and scored by this department, data reports are provided to the classroom teachers and campus and district administrators. This data is utilized to improve student achievement. The results of these assessments are reported to the board. This website provides the Performance Plus Assessment Calendar for 2005-2006.

We also provide data reports for the Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) and Tejas Lee (Spanish Reading Inventory) for grade K-2. The TPRI/TEJAS Lee is given to first and second graders three times a year in September, January, and April. The two tests are administered to kindergarten students two times a year in January and April. The results of these early diagnostic assessments help classroom teachers target the specific instructional needs of each student. These two tests assist our district in implementing comprehensive programs of reading instruction, so that students in our district are reading on grade level by grade 3 and beyond. The results of these early reading instruments are reported to the state and to the school board annually. This department oversees the Optional Extended Year Program as well.
