|
|
|
|
According to TISD Superintendent Dr. David
Simmons, “John will do an excellent job as interim
principal. He provides stability and has great rapport
with the students and the staff at Lee.”
A formal search for a new high school principal will
soon be underway. A new principal should be in place
before the start of the 2006-2007 school year.

Tyler ISD Junior Exemptions
The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees will review the policy
that exempts students from exams at its regular
January meeting. The administration has
recommended that exam exemptions be re-instated
for juniors who meet the 90 average and two or
fewer absence criteria. If the Board approves this
policy change in January, it will be effective for the
spring semester and will allow juniors to be exempt
for exams in May 2006.

John Tyler High School is an "Inspiration" Semifinalist for National Award
John Tyler High School was recently selected as a
Semifinalist for the College Board’s Inspiration Award.
Every year the national College Board honors three
outstanding secondary schools for exemplary work in
improving the academic environment and helping
students achieve the promise of higher education.
The board seeks secondary schools that are truly a
springboard to college, despite the social, cultural,
and economic barriers that stand in the way of their
students.
John Tyler High School met and exceeded the initial
criteria based on the increase in the number of
students enrolled in International Baccalaureate (IB)
and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and the
number of students accepted to two or four year
institutions. From 2004 to 2005 the school increased
the number of AP exams taken and the number of
students enrolled in advanced classes from 500 to
853. There was also an increase in the number of
students accepted to college from 146 in 2004 to 317
in 2005. 93 percent of John Tyler High School’s 2004
graduating class were accepted into college.
